Tyranny of dragons6/22/2023 ![]() ![]() My players clashed with the LG members of the Council. This is your opportunity to show how big the world is, and how complex, and where the characters fit in and how important they are to the whole story. Make sure to follow the scorecard after every episode and make notes for certain factions what they’ll say and how they’ll react during a Council session. I guess here it’s more important to prepare in advance. I used it to set my mental mood for that NPC. On the flip side of the portraits, I had the NPC info printed out and that quote translated. Player backgrounds and histories could play a huge role here. So, long term planning could be key if you are playing through the whole campaign. Well, the good thing would be if your players were invested in a faction or members of it. I went out with some portraits of the NPCs, some didn’t play a big role in the end, but the players quickly learned who to antagonize or try to placate. A bunch of NPCs arguing, complex mechanics of the game the players need to understand, high stakes for the whole world. Here you’ll have your work cut out for you. Preparing Episode 1: Council of Waterdeep Then we discuss the Draakhorn, and their new mission. The resistance to the world crisis is still in its early stages, and factions can’t agree on much. We recap the whole Hoard of the Dragon Queen adventure, and I introduce the players to the Council “scorecard.” I make sure to drive the points about their decisions and certain factions’ reactions to those. The dragons, the Cult of the Dragon, Severin, the dragonmasks, the Wyrmspeakers, the plan to free Tiamat, and eventually the Draakhorn. We have to go into a complex exposition dump about what is going on in the world. They use it to quickly escape the castle and reappear in Waterdeep. There’s a scroll case on it, and inside it is a teleport scroll. In the ruined castle in the snowy mountains a raven lands near the party and recites a message. In This Episode: The heroes are introduced to the Council of Waterdeep and go on their first mission way up north.
